Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is the second most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the USA. Women who are not endowed with adequate breasts or whose breasts have atrophied because of pregnancy are ideal candidates for breast enhancement.
Breast augmentation is a safe, effective surgical procedure designed to improve the contour and dimensions of a woman's body by inserting either saline filled implants or silicone implants beneath the breast or chest wall muscles. Dr. Khoury will present to you the many different styles of implants available as well as the many access incisions available, explaining the different benefits of the various combinations.
The procedure can be performed in the privacy of Dr. Khoury's surgical facility, and the patient will be under sedation anesthesia, remaining quite comfortable throughout the entire operation. Incisions are made either in the lower portion of the breast, the periphery of the areola, or in the armpit. Breast tissue is raised to create a pocket either under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle, and the implant is inserted into the pocket.
Following surgery, the patient wears either bandages or a special garment. These are usually replaced in a few days with a surgical bra which is worn for several weeks. Strenuous exercises and overhead lifting must be avoided for several weeks and sutures are removed in about five to seven days. Swelling and discoloration disappears within a few days and scars from the incisions fade significantly with time.
