Ear Surgery
Ear plasty, also known as otoplasty, can improve the shape, size, and position of the ear in relation to the scalp. Children that are born with large "dumbo" ears that stick out from the side of their head can benefit from the procedure, achieving natural-looking ears that "fit" with the rest of the face. Children who suffer from prominent ears should have this procedure performed before school age to avoid taunts from their peers. Ear plasty can also be performed on adults who wish to pin their ears back. Tears in the earlobe caused by the the strain of heavy earrings can also be mended.
Earlobe plasty can be performed in the comfort of my surgical suite with the patient conscious and under local anesthesia. Bandages will be placed around the ears and will be removed after 3 to 5 days. Ear plasty in children usually requires treatment in the hospital under general anasthesia.
